Members responsibilities The philosophy of Local 70 is to enable our members to care for themselves and each-other. The union provides expertise, skills and education to our members. Through these components we provide service, but we all must accept responsibility for asserting and utilizing that knowledge for success.

Like the democracy we live in, your union depends on informed, knowledgeable active individuals who participate.

Members strive to d o the following:

  • Know and understand their union structure
  • Know how and what their union does
  • Know who to go to in their union, and when
  • Know their union and how to use it
  • Know their rights and how to protect them

A member is informed by:

  • Staying current on unit and union-wide issues
  • Reading Local 70 newsletters and communications and other union wide publications
  • Attending meetings or discussing the meeting with someone who has attended
  • Asking questions

A member participates by:

  • Voting, Voting Voting!
  • Working for the common good
  • Supporting and understanding their peers
  • Expressing their views
  • Enforcing their contract

Remember, it’s YOUR union. It can only be as effective and responsive as YOU allow it to be.
